As many of you know on April 25, 2015, an earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale hit Nepal – the largest earthquake in the area in over 80 years. In Kathmandu, homes have been destroyed and walls have toppled. Landslides closed roads and an avalanche triggered by the earthquake has killed climbers staying in the base camps on Mount Everest.
The need for aid is overwhelming as the earthquake has caused food, water and shelter shortages. Hospitals are overwhelmed with injured people. Supplies of medicines are also running low.
Global Medic is a registered charity whose mission is to provide emergency relief to people all over the world affected by natural disasters and other emergencies. They aim to empower the people in the global communities they serve by providing equipment and training for emergency medical care, rescues and water purification.
Guro Brett is leaving on Tuesday to go help out with Global Medic for a few weeks. He will be working in and around Kathmandu and the areas hit the hardest, Aiming to get clean drinking water supplies and sanitation kits to the people affected, as well as surveying the damage using drones and supplying and putting up field hospitals.
