Members of maelstrom were pleased to participate in a demonstration of krabi krabong at the Sooke Music Festival.
Krabi krabong is a weapon-based striking art with roots that date back centuries in Thailand. Much emphasis is spent on ensuring that power is efficiently transferred from the moving body into strikes with weapons such as swords (“daab”, used singly or paired), spears (“ngao”), and shields — both handheld (“lo”) or strapped to the forearm (“mae sowk”).
Kru Loki and Gary demonstrated with a variety of weapon combinations, and looked like they had a great time doing it.
