TEDx Tokyo – Science & Martial Arts by Dominic Jones

Dominic Jones is an Associate Professor at Sendai Seiyo Gakuin College in Japan. In addition to teaching classes, his research areas are Martial Science, Comprehension Based Instruction and Neuro-Linguistic Programming Modeling.

In this Teachers Lecture on Martial Science Education TEDx talk, he highlighted how the scientific understanding of human movement is critical in the study of the martial arts. According to his instructor, Dr. Ron Chapél, it is the responsibility of the martial scientist to experiment and find the most effective movement patterns that consistently perform in hands-on, stressful, self-defense situations.

The audience enthusiastically participated in eye opening martial science experiments and discovered in the words of Ed Parker, that “To see is to be deceived, to hear is to doubt, but to feel is to believe.”
