Vancouver International Swordplay Symposium

VISS is a weekend devoted to European swordsmanship and martial arts that takes place in downtown Vancouver, BC, home of Academie Duello, the world’s largest centre for swordplay.

This is an inspiring weekend for Western Martial Arts practitioners, readers of historical fiction and fantasy, history buffs, and fans of swordplay. VISS brings together instructors, practitioners, writers, and lecturers from around the world for an exciting series of workshops, lectures, performances, and events all with swordplay at their heart.

Events in 2015 will be taking place at Academie Duello, (412 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, B.C., Canada) and additional locations in the neighborhood.

The theme of VISS 2015 is “The Pursuit of Mastery: Live, Move, Think, Fight.” Each of these pillars represent an element of mastery:

Live: Learn how to manage your lifestyle to live the life of a martial artist.

Move: Learn to move masterfully from the ground up. Fundamental biomechanics are at the core of every fighting technique.

Think: Supplement your training by learning the history and context of the Western martial arts.

Fight: Test your skills against resisting opponents. Put all of the pieces together and see your enemies driven before you!
