Congratulations to the latest graduates of the Bourne Legacy min-course for 2014, a private group from a local health authority who have spent eight consecutive Thursday evenings training at maelstrom. The mini-course prepares participants to execute the fight choreography from the first three Bourne movies by learning kali footwork, knife defense, improvised weapons, empty hand attacks, controls, destructions and how to deal with multiple attackers.
The fighting techniques from the Jason Bourne movie series are taken directly from the Filipino martial arts. The choreographer on the first three movies was the renowned Jeff Imada from the Inosanto Academy. The fight scenes use realistic FMA applications including empty hand against knife, improvised weapons, and use of environment.
Highlights from the class included the challenge of learning to fight and the fun of acting out the scenes for the camera, and then seeing how far your skills have come in the eight weeks of the course.
It was great to see everyone fully engaged and performing long complex combinations, fast and effective – just like Jason Bourne.
“Learned so much in a small amount of time!
The instructors made the course really challenging and super fun at the same time.
Can’t believe how fast our skill level advanced!”

“It’s amazing how much we learned in 8 classes, Loki and Chris are awesome teachers who really showed us how we can use different objects around us for self-defense.
A fun and instructional course, I always left with a huge smile on my face.”
