Alvin Tolentino

Alvin Erasga Tolentino is one of the most active Asian/Canadian dance artists who continue to reveal, provoke, fascinate and bring a fresh voice in the national and international dance scene. His successful career has garnered him notability and a distinct reputation as an original and an unpredictable contemporary performing artist.

Tolentino’s dance creations are driven from the need to intricately illustrate human experiences of light and darkness and the infinitely complex relationship between nature and humanity. His choreography challenges the exploration of hybridity that juxtapose to reveal the private and public territory empowering the issues within the traditional and contemporary cross-cultural dialogue.

Kathara Canada

WHO WE ARE Kathara Canada is a dance theatrical organization composed of multi-disciplinary artists in movement, dance, music, theatre, martial and multimedia. We are first and second generation Filipinos, as well, non-Filipinos dedicated to the promotion of Pilipino Mindanaoan Indigenous arts and culture.
OUR VISION Our vision is that of creatively empowered individuals and communities embracing Philippine Mindanaoan Indigenous arts and culture.
OUR HISTORY In 2002, Kathara Dance Theatre Collective from Davao Mindanao Philippines, came to Canada to perform at a series of community events which led to the holding of community workshops attracting aspiring local artists who wished to learn more about Kathara and Mindanaoan Indigenous identity. Filipinos and non-Filipinos from diverse artistic backgrounds joined to explore the culture and the arts of the Lumads (indigenous people of Mindanao). In the spirit of intercultural Exchange, it was then that ushered in the journey of Kathara Canada.
