Summer Term – the blade

We congratulate those of you who came out to testing this past Thursday, marking the end of our  Spring Term based around the Contradas.  This summer (well – roughly July to September), the theme is shifting to focus on “the blade”.  Pekiti-Tirsia has been described by some afficionados as the “most sophisticated blade-based system” in the martial arts world.

So we take particular pride and attention to anything with a sharp edge.

Don’t be fooled by our rattan sticks – though we train with them, we return our focus to blade awareness for this semester.  Although much of the curriculum familiar to regular students, you will come out of this term with a better appreciation and understanding and there is much of it that deals with the blade.

Curriculum will include:

  • Dakup y punyo (for espada y daga and solo daga)
  • Sigung labo with blade (for knife or bolo/stick)
  • First 6 solo seguidas
  • Light sparring
  • Tapping
  • Cutting vs. hacking, watik vs. lobtik
  • 1-25 of the 64 attacks
    • Focus on 1-12 as strikes and 23-25 umbrellas
    • Blade details
