Beat the Crap Out of Cancer XV – YVR Edition
BTCOOC is an armed combatives fund-raising event in its 14th year since its inception in Toronto by Rene “Growling Dog” Cocolo. It runs in multiple cities across the globe in the first (or second) weekend in November. Following Dog Brothers ethos, but lowering the bar to allow more people to participate and fund-raise, this weapons-fighting event is a great opportunity for anyone with the courage to meet others in good fun and good skill.
While this event started with Filipino stick-fighting, it has grown to encompass a wide range of weapons and styles. All are welcome that will play within the intentions set for the event.

All participants must:
- Register for the event as a fighter
- Register with BC Cancer as a BTCOOC XV fund-raiser (individual or team)

BTCOOC is an opportunity for stick fighters and others weapons martial artsts to participate in a non-competitive sparring event. Each bout is chosen by the participants including who they fight, what implements they use, what level of vigor, and what ancillary rules are to be applied (ex. no grappling or no throwing). A referee ensure that the agreed constraints are observed.
This year – 2024 – maelstrom Martial Arts and Academie Duello are once again combining forces to bring this event forward. Both Southeast Asian and Western members training at Academie Duello are encouraged to participate – as are all others training and fighting weapon arts who are interested to participate.
