Mario started his martial arts journey like most teenagers – training taekwondo. He reached his blue belt, but quit to pursue other interests, as most teenagers do.
<br/>
In 2013, after a multi-decade break, Mario began training in Six Harmonious Kung Fu with a focus on weapons such as the Jian (straight sword), the Pudao (long-handled Broadsword), and the Sun and Moon spear swords (sort of like a spork of death).

In 2015, Mario discovered Maelstrom and was hooked after his first Kali class. After six years of dedicated training, Mario was promoted to the rank of Lakan Guro in PTK and teaches Kali and Fight Lab classes at Maelstrom.

In 2025, Mario was elevated by Khru Mehdi Pouroskoui of KB One (Vancouver) to brown sash (assistant instructor) in Muay Chaiya (traditional empty hand Thai combat arts).

In 2017, Mario fought at his first Dog Brothers Gathering. After attending many more gatherings since then, in May 2023 he ascended to the rank of full Dog Brother fighter and took the name “Noisy Dog”.

In addition to Kali and Muay Chaiya, Mario has trained in Pencak Silat, and currently trains and holds the rank of blue sash in Krabi Krabong.
