\u00a0\u00a0maelstr\u00f8m Martial Arts\u00a0knows<\/em><\/strong> festivals.\u00a0 And Illuminares is one of the best.\u00a0 For the last 7 years,\u00a0\u00a0maelstr\u00f8m has hosted a “camp” at the festival where people are invited to drop-in, get comfortable, play with sticks, and hang with friends.\u00a0 This is an absolutely EPIC place to be on a Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

Look for \u00a0maelstr\u00f8m at the southeast corner of Trout Lake<\/strong>, east and a bit north of the beach at the end of the lake.\u00a0 Look for a circle of torches, a circus tent, and brightly colored fabrics.<\/p>\n

Illuminares Lantern Festival – 25 Light Years<\/strong>
\nThe Public Dreams Society is pleased to announce the 2013 Illuminares Lantern Festival will take place on Saturday, July 20, at its traditional location around East Vancouver\u2019s Trout Lake.\u00a0\u00a0This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the iconic community festival, and for this edition of our signature event we are marking that milestone with the theme \u201925 Light Years\u2019.<\/p>\n

While the human energy of the first Illuminares rippled out through the Trout Lake area communities, the light energy sped upward towards the stars – passing Alpha Centauri after five years, zooming past Sirius, Procyon and Altair, until just this summer reaching the star Vega, twenty-five light years from Earth. This summer, visit the shores of Trout Lake and take a journey back through time with Public Dreams, navigating our history using these stars as your signposts!<\/p>\n

Illuminares has been described as an iconic part of the cultural landscape in Vancouver, and earlier this year it was named \u2018Best East Vancouver Festival\u2019 in the Vancouver Courier newspaper.\u00a0\u00a0Drawing over 20,000 people a year to John Hendry Park, the Lantern Festival is a spectacle for all ages and one of the Don\u2019t-Miss events of Vancouver\u2019s summer.\u00a0\u00a0Most importantly, Illuminares started as a community festival and it remains one to this day, relying on public participation to create its special kind of magic.\u00a0\u00a0 This year we bring the festival back to it\u2019s roots, with less electricty, less programming and focussing on the procession. We will be offering lantern making workshops at Trout Lake Community Centre the week prior the festival and during the event itself.\u00a0 Please come, make a lantern, and join us in our walk around the lake at 9:30 pm.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Lantern Making Workshops<\/p>\n

The 25th anniversary Illuminares Lantern Festival and Procession is happening on July 20th this summer! \u00a0Come and make a lantern at one of our workshops and celebrate “25 Light Years” at Trout Lake.
\nThis workshop if perfect for anyone aged 6 and up who wants a bit of guidance to learn how to build a lantern. A Public Dreams artist will lead you through the steps to create various styles of lanterns\u2014everything from simple glass jars to complicated bamboo and paper. Once you\u2019ve paid for your lantern, feel free to come in as many times as you like to build and embellish your illuminated creation.<\/p>\n
