He owns and runs the <a title=\"Gelinas Academy of Mixed Martial Arts\" href=\"http:\/\/www.montrealmartialarts.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Gelinas Academy of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA)<\/strong><\/a>. He is one of the founding Dog Brothers as well as one of the founders of the Brazilian Top Team Canada network of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academies in Canada.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/maelstromcore.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/PKT_Stick_fist_closeup.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-843\" alt=\"PKT_Stick_fist_closeup\" src=\"http:\/\/maelstromcore.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/PKT_Stick_fist_closeup-300x151.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"http:\/\/maelstromcore.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/PKT_Stick_fist_closeup-300x151.jpg 300w, http:\/\/maelstromcore.com\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/PKT_Stick_fist_closeup.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/div>\n<div class=\"ezcol ezcol-one-half ezcol-last\">\n<p><strong>HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gelinas began his training in a style of karate known as Chito Ryu at the age of 14.\u00a0 Since then he has trained in many styles including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kali, Muay Thai, Judo, Kempo, Kajukenbo, Jun Fan-Jeet kune do, Silat, and Capoeira. He obtained black belts in Kempo (1973) and Kajukenbo (1975). In the 1980s he received a Muay Thai instructor credential under Tom Harink after meeting him in 1985.<\/p>\n<p>Philip Gelinas\u00a0began his training in the Filipino Martial Arts in 1981. He has been elevated to the\u00a0rank of Mandala-Tuhon by <a title=\"Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje Jr. \u2013 Head of Pekiti Tirsia Kali\" href=\"http:\/\/maelstromcore.com\/sandbox\/?page_id=945\">Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje,<\/a> is a\u00a0Full Instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto, and holds the rank of first tier fighter and guro in Dog Brothers Martial Arts.\u00a0 He won the Grand Championship\u00a0at the International Kali Grand Championships in Nashville, Tn. in 1988\u00a0and is an\u00a0original member\u00a0of the\u00a0<a title=\"Dog Brothers Martial Arts\" href=\"http:\/\/maelstromcore.com\/sandbox\/?page_id=823\">Dog Brothers<\/a> stick-fighting group appearing in their highly successful video tape series\u00a0Real Contact Stick Fighting.<\/p>\n<p>Tuhon Philip teaches from his own school GAMMA based in Montreal, Quebec.
