Pekiti-Tirsia System of Kali
- Rank: Agalon Guro (3rd hagdan)
Buddhai Sawan Krabi Krabong
- Rank: Sword master (class 4 level 1)
Returning to Vancouver in 2010 from running his own school in Mexico, Jacy has attained the rank of Agalon Guro (hagdan dalawa) and teaches classes with maelstom at Ancient Fire. Jacy is an active fighter and teacher in the maelstrom Dog Brothers program, and through participation in several Dog Brothers Gatherings of the Pack has developed a powerful combination of BJJ and Kali, which has resulted in a strong stick grappling curriculum he shares with maelstrom students.
Born in 1977 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver B.C, Jacy came to the martial arts at the age of 16 when he started taking Yang Style Tai-Chi while recovering from football related injuries.
After training for a time in Aikido and Kendo he found his home in Pekiti-Tirsia System of Kali at the age of 19 under Loki Jorgenson. Moving to Montreal to attend McGill University Jacy had the opportunity to train under Tuhon Philip Gelinas, and started training Brazillian Jui-jitsu under Nova Union Black Belt Wagney Fabiano, later receiving his Blue Belt under BTT Black Belt Fabio Hollanda. He attained Lakan Guro ranking in Pekiti after 7 years of hard training in the art in 2002. As part of his commitment to the art, he had the honour of housing Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje Jr. for three weeks in Montreal, during his return to giving North American seminars.
Jacy then brought the rank to Mexico, specifically Huatulco, where he taught and trained. There Jacy and his ex-wife Ximena Osegueda formed Trisquellion Martial Arts, with classes in BJJ, Boxing, Capoeira and Kali. He continued training in all of the aforementioned arts, often bringing in instructors for seminars and traveling to Brazil for 3 month on a training vacation.
Returning to Vancouver, Jacy has re-joined maelstrom and brings his unique talents and skills to the students and instructors. He established and currently leads the maelstrom Kali program at the Ancient Fire location.
A point of personal note is that Jacy has continued training through both shoulder and knee surgeries as well as some intense personal issues, and considers the practice of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali as being instrumental in successful recovery from all of these difficulties.
