2019 Warrior Tipon-Tipon March 16, Bellvue WA

Lamont Glass and Belton Lubas are pleased to announce the date for this year’s Tipon-Tipon: it will be held Saturday, March 16 at 10am at Warrior Strength Martial Arts, 2273 140th Ave NE, Bellevue, Washington 98005.

Weapon sparring exists as a compliment to skills training: all techniques are taught, but not all techniques work in all situations, or for all students. This is why Maelstrom offers Fight Lab: see how to apply what you’ve practiced. For those of you considering participating in a Dog Brothers Open Gathering (or for those of you who come to Fight Lab, and want to have that experience with a new group), the Tipon-Tipon is a great example of the format. From the Tipon-Tipon Facebook page:

The term “Tipon-Tipon” is from the Illongo dialect for “Gathering” and represents the hosting schools connection to the Filipino culture of weapon based martial arts. However, this is intended as a meeting of like minded weapon based martial artists who are meeting in a venue designed to improve their skills through simulated combat …
this is not a tournament, there are no drawings for pairs, no record of a win or loss, no progression to find a champion, no referees, no judges, no trophies, no prize money. Each fight is purely for the experience, the challenge against the skill of the opponent and the mental challenge of dealing with the fear of the fight.
