Pencak Silat – Basic Terminology

Thank you for those who came out and attended the Pencak Silat Gadjah Putih Seminar last weekend. Hopefully, you have had a good time and learned something valuable.

During the seminar, we used some Indonesian words for the moves. Below is a list of the most basic terminology for your reference:

Pasang – readiness position; fighting stance
Pukul – punch
Tewak – grab
Sikut – horizontal elbow
Simur – thrusting elbow
Depan – vertical rising elbow
Dongkari – vertical dropping elbow
Tileup – circular elbow redirect

One – satu
Two – dua
Three – tiga
Four – empat
Five – lima
Six – enam
Seven – tujuh
Eight – delapan
Nine – sembilan
Ten – sepuluh
