Kali Means ‘To Scrape,’ Documentary

‘Kali Means ‘To Scrape’ follows the journey of a martial arts enthusiast, instructor and stick fighter, Nick “Pappy Dog” Papdakis through the Philippines where he seeks out Kali masters and teachers.

Along with some great clips of training with Grand Tuhon Gaje, head of the Pekiti Tirsia system of Kali, ‘Kali Means to Scrape’ shows the cultural side of Kali in the Philippines. From formal classes to military training to family arts taught in villages, passed down through generations as a means of survival, this movie shows Kali in its country of origin, where it comes across clearly as a means of self-defense, as a way of life and as an art.
