Overview: Merantau is the age-old rite of passage carried out by the young men of Minangkabau in West Sumatra that requires each boy to leave his home community and make his way in the city of Jakarta. This movie is the story of Yuda, who leaves his home on this quest and finds himself defending an orphan, Astri, from being sold into a European human trafficking ring.
With the trafficking ring angered and searching the city for their ‘merchandise’, Yuda is tries to flee with Astri and her younger brother but finds himself trapped, and so he turns and faces his pursuers.
